ก่อนหน้านี้ Apple ไล่ถอดแอปที่ติดมัลแวร์ XcodeGhost กว่า 344 แอป ซึ่งเกิดจากการที่นักพัฒนาหลายราย (ส่วนมากจะที่จีน) ไม่ยอมดาวน์โหลดโปรแกรมพัฒนา Xcode จากเว็บไซต์ Apple โดยตรง และเมื่อไปดาวน์โหลดจากลิงค์เว็บฝากไฟล์ทั้งหลายจึงได้ XcodeGhost ที่เป็นของปลอมสอดไส้มัลแวร์เข้ามา
ล่าสุด Apple ได้เปิดเผย 25 อันดับ ของแอปพลิเคชันที่ได้รับผลกระทบจากมัลแวร์ XcodeGhost ซึ่งก่อนหน้านี้ผู้ใช้งานหลายท่านอาจดาวน์โหลดเข้าเครื่องไปโดยไม่ตั้งใจ และคำแนะนำก็คือรีบอัปเดตแอปฯ ให้เป็นเวอร์ชั่นใหม่ล่าสุดเดี๋ยวนี้!

สาเหตุหลักที่นักพัฒนาไม่ยอมดาวน์โหลด Xcode จากเว็บไซต์ Apple โดยตรงเกิดจากความล่าช้าของอินเตอร์เน็ตที่วิ่งออกต่างประเทศของจีน ในขณะที่ XcodeGhost นั้นถูกเผยแพร่จาก Cloud ของ Baidu ซึ่งเป็นที่นิยมอย่างมากในประเทศจีน (แต่ไม่ได้หมายความว่ามัลแวร์จะมาจากไปตู้)
